Define your Journey

November 4, 2024 · In: It's personal, Reflection

Reflecting on my journey, I realize that I was not born into a family of wealth or high education.

My parents, who didn’t have the opportunity to earn college degrees, did their best with the circumstances they were given.

My dad, a soldier, was the only child in his family who had to enlist, a decision made for the benefit of the entire family.

He never had the chance to attend university, and as a result, he didn’t sit down with me to impart any life lessons.

My mom faced her own struggles, having lost her mother at the tender age of eight. This loss left her grappling with her identity, too pained and traumatized to raise me in what many would consider a normal, healthy way.

Growing up, I didn’t have the advantage of a stable, nurturing family environment.

It often felt like God didn’t give me a good head start in life.

Quite the opposite, in fact—it required significantly more effort on my part to level the playing field with my friends, who had the benefit of supportive and loving parents. They possessed what I often thought of as “leverage” in life.

However, despite these challenges, I was blessed with resilience, creativity, intelligence, and an unyielding drive.

I have always had a strong curiosity to learn, a sense of authenticity, and a powerful inner compass. These qualities have allowed me to listen to my inner voice rather than simply following the herd.

They are my unique assets, invaluable and irreplaceable, with no price tag attached. No amount of money can buy them, and no one can take them away from me.

I am a firm believer in the power of education and lifelong learning. Without these, I would not have become the person I am today. While we cannot choose our background or the family we are born into, we do have the power to choose how we grow and improve each day. We have the ability to choose our attitude and how we play the cards we are dealt.

Ultimately, it’s not about where you start in life, but how you rise above your circumstances that truly defines your journey. #Resilience #DefineYourJourney #LifelongLearning
