The author’s speech struck me in several ways, and I wanted to share the most important takeaways with you. But first: Let’s hear what he got to say
FAILURE IS IMPORTANT FOR GROWTH
Firstly, many Asian cultures tend to view failure as something to be ashamed of, whereas Western cultures tend to be more guilt-based. This is an essential distinction to understand because it affects how we approach personal growth. To grow and succeed, we must be willing to take risks and learn from our mistakes without feeling ashamed or embarrassed.
EVERYTHING IS A VEHICLE FOR US TO GROW
Additionally, the author emphasized that our businesses or careers are just vehicles for us to learn and grow. If we experience failure in these areas, we should ask ourselves whether we’ve grown through the experience. The same goes for any challenging or unfortunate situations we encounter in life; we should always ask ourselves whether we’ve learned and grown from them.
PERSONAL GROWTH SHOULD BE OUR ULTIMATE GOAL AND PRIORITIZED
Furthermore, personal growth should be prioritized over other aspects of our lives. We should make a conscious effort to spend at least 20 minutes every day learning something new, whether it’s by reading a book, listening to a podcast, or taking a course. By making personal growth a habit, we can continuously improve ourselves and achieve our goals.
We learn through either pain, or insight
It’s also essential to note that people typically change through either pain and crisis or insights gained from retrospection or the wisdom of others. To avoid waiting for a crisis to spur us into action, we should take a proactive approach to personal growth and continuously seek out opportunities to learn and improve ourselves.
However, my personal takeaway should not discourage you from listening to this incredibly inspiring speech. Listen to it here and let me know what you think?
